Previously, basic principles and terminology of experiments have been discussed. There are several methods of experimental designs according to which the researchers follow and carry out statistical analysis. Among them, Completely randomized design (CRD), Randomised block design (RBD), and Latin square design is discussed here.
Completely randomized design (CRD)
In a completely randomized design, the treatments are assigned completely at random so that each experimental unit has the same chance of receiving any one treatment. For the CRD, any difference among experimental units receiving the same treatment is considered an experimental error. Hence, CRD is appropriate only for experiments with homogeneous experimental units, such as laboratory experiments, where environmental effects are relatively easy to control.
