  2. Temperate zone
  3. Subtropical zone
  4. Tropical zone
  • According to Koppen-Geiger classification, global climate can be divided into the following 6 types:

Type A: Equatorial

Type B: Arid

Type C: Temperate

Type D: Cold

Type E: Polar

  • Hansan (1920) subdivided the plants into the 8 distinct zones on either side of the equator. These are separated by distinct latitudinal boundary as follows:

1. Equator zone (0-15o)

2. Tropical zone (15-23.5o)

3. Sub-tropical zone (23.5-34o)

4.Warm-temperate zone (34-45o)

5. Cold-temperate zone (45-58o)

6. Sub-arctic zone (58-66.5o)

7. Arctic zone (65.5-72o)

8. Polar zone (72o-)

 

Classification of global vegetation

Global vegetation can be classified mainly into the following types:

1. Tundra and Ice.

2. Coniferous forest (Taiga).

3. Grassland.

4. Desert.

5. Temperate deciduous forest.

6. Tropical rain forest.

7. Mediterranean scrub forest (chaparral).

8. Temperate rain forest.

3. Savanas (14%)

4. Grasslands (9%)

5. Croplands (9%)

6. Mosaics with croplands (2%)

7. Barren (14%)
